Because we are so infatuated with multi-culturalism and the fabulous impact it has on design, this article about Jean-Francois Lesage, of the eponymous French embroidery house, was absoute gold!
Lesage moved to Chennai, India, both because he had fallen in love with the area and to resume the family's legacy by melding it with the talents and workmanship of the Indian embroiderers. This move brought a different perspective to the work, as the Indians favored heavier substraits for their embroidery, which lent itself more to home furnishings than fashion.
His apartment in Chennai is beautiful, but for us, the eye-catching take-away is the astonishing animal rugs!
Look at the crocodile and the tiger rugs- they are all embroidered! Exquisite fakes that are works of art and so much more interesting and elegant than the real thing!
